Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.271

I hope my cats wouldn’t turn it into lunch.

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 271st edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we will be taking the time to discuss some of the retail side’s new Gunpla announcements. However, we won’t be covering all the retail release announcements in one go on today’s segment. Instead, we’ll do two separate posts, and for today’s post, we will be talking about the ones that we are most excited about getting.

So, without further ado, let us get into it, shall we?

HG 1/144 XXXG-01D Gundam Deathscythe (HGAC)

Release Date: May 2021
Estimated price: JPY 1,650 (MYR RM 63.74* / USD $ 15.66* / EUR € 13.00*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Honestly, both of the kits that we’ll be talking about are ones that we’ve seen during the November 2020 Gunpla EXPO reveal.

But even with that said, it’s still nice to see both of them again. Not to mention, it was even nicer to learn more about what we will be getting with these upcoming Gunpla releases.

So let us first start with this, the HGAC Deathscythe.

Because even though we were quite impressed when we saw the HGAC Deathscythe for the first time, however, after spending more time looking at the final version shown here in its promotional materials. We admit that we were even more impressed by what we see here.

First, let us talk about its looks. Because from what we can see here, it does seem that they managed to strike a balance between making the HGAC Deathscythe look as close to its anime counterpart and adding in some very insanely intricate parts.

What’s more, from what we can see from its promotional materials, it does look like it has a pretty impressive color separation for its parts.

But the looks aren’t the only thing that got all of us here impressed, because the other thing that we were quite impressed by here is its gimmicks. Well, that is because it looks like the articulation system designed for this kit will enable the HGAC Deathscythe to have a pretty wide range of articulation for its limbs. What that means is that we reckon that the HGAC Deathscythe will be a very poseable HGAC kit.

All in all, we are looking forward to getting this one, and we sincerely hope that all of this awesomeness would translate well in the actual release.

RG 1/144 XXXG-01W Wing Gundam (RG)

Release Date: Jun 2021
Estimated price: JPY 3,520 (MYR RM 135.97* / USD $ 33.40* / EUR € 27.72*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

To some of you here, you might be surprised to see this making its way into the kit that we like list after we made our feelings known about this version of the RG Wing Gundam back when Bandai revealed it during the Gundam EXPO event.

However, after spending some more time with the RG Wing Gundam’s new promotional materials, we have to say that we are quite impressed with what we see here. Well, because it was nice to see that this a completely different RG kit when we compared it to its previous EW variant.

YES, we admit that after seeing all the badass recent RG releases, it is a no-brainer that this RG kit would reap all the gains that the RG line-up has made in these past few years. But at the same time, due to Bandai’s own doing, you can’t blame us for thinking that Bandai would be lazy here and churning out the same reskin kit.

So, yeah, we are quite glad to see that they are giving the RG Wing Gundam the same treatment as their recent RG releases and not give us another reskin kit.

Although, we would admit that despite this being an RG kit, it doesn’t seem to have that iconic RG design characteristic. Frankly, we all here think that it looked more like a slightly higher detailed HG kit than an RG kit if we were, to be honest, here.

But even with that said, it’s not like we didn’t like how the RG Wing Gundam looked. It’s just we think that it looked a bit odd if you were to put it side by side with the other RG releases.

But we have a strong feeling that Bandai designed the RG Wing Gundam that way so the RG Wing could be displayed together with the other HGAC kits. Heck, they even went as far as to make that clear in one of the Promo banners that they used to promote the RG Wing and the Retail/P-Bandai HGAC line-up.

But the fully armored look isn’t the only thing that we like about it. We are as well a fan of how the RG Wing Gundam’s inner frame looked. Because just like its armor frame, the inner-frame as well looked clean and simple with a hint of sophistication. It does look to all of here like Bandai did quite a good job designing the RG Wing Gundam’s inner-frame system here.

But honestly, the thing that really sold us the idea of getting this RG kit is that it could transform into the badass bird mode.

We are sure by now most of you here have seen the meme surrounding this ridiculous Bird mode feature and laughed at how stupid it looked. But funnily enough, seeing this mode is what made all of us here want to get this RG Wing in the first place.

Why?

Well, it is because when Bandai decided to use this mode to promote this RG kit, it says alot about their confidence in this RG kit. It does look like that they’re really confident that this RG kit would be as good as the other RG releases. That is why they don’t mind showing its sillier side as well.

That is why we are now interested in getting it. Hopefully, our trust is not misplaced here with this RG kit.

Anyways, that concludes our 271st edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. Honestly, after spending time staring at these two upcoming retail releases, it does manage to make all of us smile. We here do look forward to getting the two of them as soon as they hit our shores in these coming months.

Yes, we are aware that we still have one more Retail release that we haven’t talked about today. But we are saving that release for next week’s post since we are still struggling to digest its promotional material.

But don’t worry, we will eventually get to it. Oh it would be nice as well to hear your thoughts on these releases as well!

Anyways, all of us will be back again this coming Tuesday (hopefully), with a new Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, picking up where we left off with the P-Bandai announcements. So, do look forward to that :D!
