Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.302

A beautiful grey monotone grandpa

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 302nd edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we will again be taking the time to talk about one of The Gundam Base Limited’s Gunpla release announcements from last week that we missed.

Well, yes, funnily enough, there is another kit release announcement besides the badass 21st Century HGUC MK.II that we missed.

So, today we will be talking about that particular release instead.

So, without further ado, let us get into it, shall we?

EG 1/144 Gundam Base Limited RX-78 Gundam [Painting Model] (EG)

Release Date: 21st June 2021
Estimated price: JPY 770 (MYR RM 28.92* / USD $ 7.02* / EUR € 5.76*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Out of all the Gunpla kits that we see coming from Bandai, the 2020 release Entry Grade Gundam is probably one of the most surprising releases of 2020 that most of us here have experienced.

From our experience building the Entry Grade Gundam, we find it to be a fun little kit that beginners could pick up. Not to mention, it is as well, really cheap. But the thing that we are most surprised about here is that, despite its asking price, it doesn’t look like they spared any expense to make these.

Which we here do think is an impressive feat!

Because of that, we are not that surprised to see the Entry Grade Gundam and its subsequent iterations selling like hotcakes.

That is why we are also not that surprised to see this version of the Entry Grade Gundam. Especially considering, the Entry Grade kits are popular amongst even the hardcore builders as well. So, it makes sense for The Gundam Base Limited to capitalize on that fact to attract the hardcore builders or beginner builders interested in dabbling with painting their Gunpla by releasing this grey monotone version of the Entry Grade Gundam kit.

But even with that said. Honestly? Even despite its colorless state, We do like what we see here.

Why?

Well, despite it being in that one-tone grey color, it is still quite a good-looking kit. But that isn’t something that we are surprised about, considering that it inherited the same good looks like the standard release. But the thing that we are actually genuinely surprised with here is on how good-looking the one-tone grey color scheme looked on the Entry Grade Gundam here.

Yes, we are a fan of the monotone grey color scheme on this Entry Grade kit. Somehow we could imagine ourselves getting this and leaving it as is.

But we know that some of you here would definitely be painting the kit up, which brings us to the next bit, the promotional picture that they used for this kit.

Because man, the pic used here looks fantastically bad, and we all here love it. We honestly can’t help to wonder why they decided to go with this weird color combination. But one thing that we are sure of after seeing this weird color combination is that it shows the flexibility and the freedom to do whatever custom colors you may have in mind for your own version of the Gundam.

Quite frankly, after spending time with this announcement, we do here think that this kit perfectly embodies the “Gunpla is Freedom” tag line well.

So, would we be interested in getting this? Well, if we are lucky enough to come across one, we might. But just like we stated earlier, we might keep it as is.

Plus, since it’s not going to be that expensive too, we wouldn’t mind getting a few more, just in case we wanted to do our very own custom-colored grandpa.

With that concludes our 302nd edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. Oh yes, we are aware that P-Bandai has made a few new Gunpla announcements recently, but we will cover it on the next coming blog post this coming Saturday (hopefully). So, please do look forward to that!
