Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.535

If you stare at it too long, the overdesign will blind you.

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 535th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla, we’ll discuss some of the Retail side’s latest Gunpla release announcements. Finally, after a long wait, we have news on new upcoming Retail Gunpla releases.

And from what we can see, the news we’re getting is mainly on new HG kits.

So far. But today, we won’t cover any new Retail HG announcements. Instead, we’ll talk about some fascinating Gunpla teaser that they made recently.

Anyway, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

HG 1/144 Zaku II Solari (HGRFV)

Release Date: Fall 2024
Estimated price: TBC
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Honestly? We were surprised to see this release teaser. Since there are no new details on the release of the upcoming Requiem for Vengence movie (We aren’t even sure if the Requiem for Vengence will be a movie at this point), we thought it would take us some time before we get some new details on the Gunplas.

But we suppose that we might see the release of the Movie (or OVA series) soon if Bandai is already teasing us with the Gunplas now.

So, let us first discuss what we think of the main protagonist’s MS, the HGRFV Zaku II Solari.

If we’re honest, it may surprise you that we’re unsure of the Zaku II Solari’s design. On the one hand, we do like what we see here because we think it is a refreshing take on the well-loved Zeeks workhorse MS design. On the other, we find that the folks in the MS Design department went a tad bit overboard with the design of the Zaku II Solari.

Why the conflicting feelings?

Because we constantly find ourselves adoring the design of the Zaku II Solari and finding ourselves confused about what they’re going for here. But we suspect the designer went with this over-design, maybe because Bandai wanted to cater to the Western Mecha audience since most Western Mecha designs tend to go overboard with their mechas.

But then again, Bandai is trying something new here, and we should commend Bandai’s effort in trying. Plus, it’s not like we hate the looks of the HGRFV Zaku II Solari. It’s just that a lot is going on here.

Since this is a teaser, we can’t say much about what to expect with the HGRVF Zaku II Solari. But we speculate that we might get a nice gimmick on the HGRVF Zaku II Solari’s shoulder shield part. Also, it does look like Bandai designed a new joint system for the HGRVF Zaku II Solari. But since Bandai hasn’t showcased any poses, we are unsure how well articulated this kit will be. But as long as they get it to have the same level of articulation seen on the HGGTO Zaku II’s or the HGUC Zaku II REVIVE, then it is good enough in our books.

We’ll cover this again as soon as they post new information on this kit!

And that concludes our 535th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. We know that the HGRFV Zaku II Solari isn’t the only kit that Bandai teased. But since they still have more Gunpla announcements tomorrow. So, we assume we might learn more by then. So, we’ll keep this as is and return as soon as we learn more.

We’ll be back this Saturday (hopefully) with a new blog post. So do look forward to it!
