Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.536

Finally, a proper update to a beloved classic

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 536th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll discuss some of the Latest Retail Gunpla release announcements. And we have a lot of new and exciting Gunpla release announcements from the Hyper Plamo fest!

However, we won’t return to our previous Gunpla discussion for now since we didn’t learn anything new (nor did they impart any new information during the event), or we’ll discuss all the latest Retail Gunpla releases. For today, we’ll only discuss one that really got us excited.

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

RG 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam Ver.2.0 (RG)

Release Date: August 2024
Estimated price: JPY 3,850 (MYR 120.38* / USD 25.43* / EUR 23.41*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Honestly? We weren’t that surprised to see a new OG Gundam announced at the Hyper Plamo Fest event. But before we saw this announcement, we were wondering at first what Gundam variant we’d get this time. Will it be an event-exclusive EG Gundam variant? Will we get a clear Char version of the HGUC Revive/HGGTO Gundam?

But no, because Bandai instead gives us the RG Gundam Ver.2.0. A kit that most fans of the RG line (and us) have been asking for an update for quite some time.

And from the looks of it, it was worth the wait. Because, man, Bandai did a damn good job with the RG Ver.2.0 here.

Firstly, the level of detail we see on the RG Gundam Ver.2.0 looked almost as good as the one we see on the PGU Gundam kit. Well, the key word here is “almost”. Why? Well, despite looking quite detailed, one must remember that this is at that 1/144 scale, so understandably, some details are lost in translation when designing something this small.

But still, it is impressive that it looked so good and detailed with and without its armor. The RG Gundam Ver.2.0 is one of those kits we would love to have a clear version of. So we can really showcase how good the inner frame looked.

But what is even more impressive is its articulation because despite having a core fighter in its body, the articulation level seen on its main body is so flexible, and you can also push the articulation to its absolute limit that you could lead people to believe that there is nothing placed inside its chest unit. We even wondered if the promotional team took out the core fighter to enable the Gundam to have its body articulate to that insane level. But apparently, Bandai managed to make it possible even with its core fighter inside its chest unit.

That is definitely a badass Bandai magic there.

Also, it looked to be a much more stable kit than its first iteration, and knowing that is enough to sell us the idea of getting this upcoming RG kit.

Honestly, we are excited to get this in August.

And that concludes our 535th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. We know that this is a bit short, but worry not! We will cover the other Retail release announcement in the upcoming blog post.

We’ll be back next coming Thursday (hopefully) with a new blog post. So do look forward to it!
