Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.539

The update is getting the wrong treatment.

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 539th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll discuss one of The Gundam SIDE-F’s latest Gunpla release announcements! Interestingly, we are getting another version of the P-Bandai Re-Gz, except this time, for the Gundam SIDE-F’s side.

Do you want to guess which version of the Re-Gz we’re getting this time? You would be surprised to see which version gets that Gundam SIDE-F treatment.

But before we get ahead of ourselves, let us get into it, shall we?

MG 1/100 RGZ-91 Re-Gz (Char’s Counterattack Ver.)(MG)

Release Date: 27th April 2024
Estimated price: JPY 6,600 (MYR 206.55* / USD 43.50* / EUR 40.08*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Are you surprised? No?

Well, to be honest? Neither did we.

Since P-Bandai released the Re-Gz Unicorn version, we know they’ll eventually release the CCA version, too.

But we’re surprised Bandai decided to have the Gundam SIDE-F release this instead of letting the Retail side have it. Frankly, it doesn’t make sense to us why, considering that the Retail side is the first one to release the CCA version, so it makes sense for them to be the one to release the updated version. Plus, the one the retail side released was quite dated, and this would be a much-needed minor update to replace the aging version that the retail side had.

At the same time, we understand why Bandai is adamant about giving the Re-Gz the retail treatment, especially considering how badly the MG Dom Ver.1.5 sold. But then again, if they had provided the MG Dom (and the MG Rick Dom) with a full update, it would’ve sold well.

Let’s shift our focus back to this Gundam SIDE-F exclusive kit.

As we mentioned, this is the P-Bandai MG Re-Gz Unicorn version with the CCA version color scheme. We know coming in that we’re only getting a minor update to the aging MG Re-Gz base. So, if you expect this to come with many new features, don’t. From what we see here, it is clear that it inherited many of the same things you get on the Retail side’s aging MG Re-Gz base. So, if you have experienced building one, you’ll find many familiar parts here and there.

But even with that said, it’s not such a bad thing since most of the parts still look fantastic, and all the updates this version gets are enough to modernize the aging MG Re-Gz’s base.

But we can’t help but wonder why this version of the MG Re-Gz is getting the Gundam SIDE-F treatment. Does Bandai purposely try to piss the fandom off by limiting its release? Or are they working on a proper Ver.2.0 version of the Re-Gz? Is that why this updated version isn’t getting the retail treatment?

But knowing Bandai, we don’t think so. But then again, it never hurts to hope. But damn, this is going to be one update that is going to be painful for the wallet to get.

That concludes our 539th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. It’s not the best news to discuss (if you are a CCA and a Re-GZ fan) on Eid Al-Fitr, but it’s nice to know we’re getting an update on the aging MG Re-GZ, regardless.

Oh, and speaking of Eid, we want to take the time to wish our Fellow Muslim Readers an excellent Eid Mubarak holiday!

We’ll be back next Thursday (hopefully, the laptop will not give us more headaches) since we will be going off on short Eid holidays this weekend. But we will return next Thursday with a new blog post. So do look forward to it!
