Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.540

2024 is the year of the space crabs

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 540th edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla segment, we’ll discuss one of P-Bandai’s latest Gunpla release announcements. Interestingly, we’ll discuss a new Gundam Wing G-Unit side-story series kit.

Yes, we are finally getting a new kit after a long time.

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

HG 1/144 OZ-10VMSX-2 Gundam Burnlapius (HGAC)

Release Date: July 2024
Estimated price: JPY 4,180 (MYR 129.67* / USD 27.08* / EUR 25.39*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

With the release of the HGAC Aesculapius in 2022, we always thought that its antagonist counterpart, the Burnlapius, would eventually get the HGAC treatment.

True enough, we eventually got the Burnlapius in HGAC form, though we had to wait a year for P-Bandai to announce it. But this is one of those kits we are okay with waiting for since we know it is quite a tall task for P-Bandai to recreate the Burnlapius in Gunpla form, especially in the HGAC form.

Thankfully, all the time P-Bandai spent perfecting this paid off because the HGAC Burnlapius looks badass here. From its insane intricate details on some parts, it’s beautiful oversized shoulder armor. Best of all, P-Bandai even managed to nail the beautiful space Hy-gogg mode look right.

But the most impressive part of this goodness is that even with all these additions, it doesn’t hamper much of the articulation of its HGAC Gundam Germinass base. Even in its space crab mode, we’re impressed with the level of articulation you get here. Heck, you can even use the space crab arms in MS mode.

They even get the color scheme for the HGAC Burnlapius right. However, admittedly, we wonder how much of this kit is color-accurate. From what we can see here, it is hard to tell if there will be bits that need color-correcting stickers.

But we’re sure that since this is an HG kit, there will be parts that require color-correcting stickers. However, looking at its asking price and the promotional materials, it might not need many color-correcting stickers. If that is the case here, color us impressed.

Admittedly, we were so impressed by its promotional materials that we knew this would be one of those kits that would be a pain to preorder since we wouldn’t be the only ones to look at it and think, ‘Hey, the upcoming HGAC Burnlapius is a pretty neat kit to get.’ True enough, it was a hard HGAC kit to get because as soon as the preorder window went live at P-Bandai’s shopee online store, the preorder window for it closed immediately.

It’s not that we’re surprised; we expected this to happen. It just sucks that we might have to wait till P-Bandai reopens another preorder window batch for this kit if we plan to get these through the Scalper-free method.

It may take a while for us to get one.

That concludes our 540th edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. Despite what we feel about P-Bandai releases, we admit that sometimes they do a damn good job for some of its releases.

Looking at how good the HGAC Burnlapius looked, we wonder why Bandai’s other recent releases have not received the same effort. If the pricing is the issue, fans of the kits would be okay with paying more if we knew that Bandai would put in the same effort we see on the HGAC Burnlapius in other kits.

But then again, we aren’t Bandai, so we don’t really know what happens in the heads of the top people.

Anyways.
