Let’s Talk Gunpla Vol.542

The Clear Colored Freedom

HELLO! We are back!

In today’s 542nd edition of our Let’s Talk Gunpla post, we’ll discuss one of The Gundam Base Limited’s side interesting Gunpla release announcements. Looking at all the fabulous SEED kits the retail side is getting, the Gundam Base Side also wanted to be a part of the action. So they also get a few kits tailored-made for their release.

So, without further ado. Let us get into it, shall we?

MGSD Gundam Base Limited ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam [Clear Color] (MGSD)

Release Date: 3rd May 2024
Estimated price: JPY 4,290 (MYR 132.32* / USD 27.71* / EUR 25.87*)
*The price is subject to change, depending on the situation

Seeing how well the Retail version of the MGSD sold, we’re not surprised that The Gundam Base side announced the clear-color version. We wonder if this is why we haven’t seen a fresh reprint of the MGSD Freedom recently.

But then again, it does not matter because we think MGSD Freedom deserves the Gundam Base Limited’s Clear-Color treatment. It is one of those kits that needed the clear-color treatment, especially considering how highly detailed the inner frame is for this kit. Not to mention all the awesome things that we hear about it.

But when we say this deserves the Clear-Color treatment, we expect them to go full ‘clear that I can see the inside kind of clear.’ However, instead, what we get here is a not-so-transparent clear part.

But to be fair, unlike the Clear-Color kits that we’ve seen (and liked), those are on a more accurately proportional MS, so we get why they would look much better and clearer. Also, since this is their first time doing it for the MGSD line, we imagine it is harder for them to get the combination of clear and colored parts right here.

So we’re giving them some slack here.

But even with that said, we admit it is a shame that we can’t correctly enjoy most of the excellently designed inner-frame bits due to the terrible combination of the clear and colored bits.

We prefer they release this as a fully transparent version (though we’re not a fan of those) instead of what we have here.

That concludes our 542nd edition of the Let’s Talk Gunpla segment. This time, the news from the Gundam Base Limited side is not the best, but it is a much better Gunpla release announcement than the recent P-Bandai announcement that we saw.

Anyways.
